Andrew Romine’s grand slam powered the Detroit Tigers to a 5-3 victory over the Minnesota Twins yesterday. The big blow in the fourth inning brought the Tigers from behind, after Michael Fulmer gave up three runs over the first three innings. Fulmer settled in, pitched through the sixth, and got the win.
The Tigers host the Minnesota Twins again this afternoon. Jordan Zimmermann will start against Phil Hughes. Pregame coverage will begin at 12:45 on AM 1400 and FM 99.3, WCCY.
Chase Anderson threw seven shutout innings, as the Milwaukee Brewers blanked the Toronto Blue Jays 2-0 last night. Jonathan Villar homered. The Brewers open a series in Cincinnati tonight. Jimmy Nelson will pitch against Bronson Arroyo.
NBA
The Detroit Pistons closed their season with a 113-109 loss to the Magic at Orlando last night. Detroit got off to another slow start, and trailed by 21 points after the first quarter. They came back to take a brief late lead, but couldn’t close the game out. Ish Smith led the Pistons with 20 points.
NHL
On the opening day of the NHL playoffs, the Bruins, the Penguins, the Sharks, the Rangers and the Blues earned victories. Today, the Maple Leafs face the Capitals, the Predators meet the Blackhawks, and the Flames take on the Ducks.
Finlandia
Marquette High School football lineman Bryant Bouchard will play for Finlandia University next fall. He announced his commitment yesterday.
The Finlandia University softball team plays two at Northland College today.
