Road Under Bridge From Hancock To Dollar Bay Closes Temporarily Monday

MDOT is investing $4.3 million in repair work on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge to replace elevators and install false decking under a bridge span.

There will be a major traffic detour starting next Monday, May 15-18, and again May 22-25.

The road under the bridge from Hancock towards Dollar Bay will be closed completely, and a detour across the bridge and into downtown Houghton will be necessary.

Motorists are advised to seek other routes.

There will also be periodic lane closures on the bridge during the fall of this year to allow for other phases of the repair work.
