Ride the Keweenaw Weekend Starts This Friday

Outdoor enthusiasts are more than ready to experience the beautiful outdoors of the Keweenaw, which hosts a variety of biking trails.

With the trails finally open, Copper Harbor Trails club is hosting their annual public event as part of Ride the Keweenaw Weekend.

“So Ride the Keweenaw is season opening mountain biking event here in the Copper Country. We try to showcase all the awesome trails we got going on around here, not just in Copper Harbor but across the Keweenaw, because we have 5 trail systems in this area and we want to make sure everybody knows about them.” – Nathan Miller, Executive Director of Copper Harbor Trails Club

Ride the Keweenaw is almost completely volunteer run.

“We have so many different parts of this event that are all going on at the same time. So we have many group rides across the trail systems, and so for those I’d say we have almost 100 people pre-registered for those group rides. We are also hosting an Enduro Race in Copper Harbor, and that right now is nearing capacity. We’re going to have almost 250 people or more for that particular race, which is almost double what we’ve had in the past. We also have a Family Enduro on Saturday morning at the Michigan Tech trails, and right now we have plenty of space for it, so if you’re a family with young riders or somebody who’s looking to ger out on their first ride, there’s plenty of space in that event, and that’s the first time we will be offering that.” – Nathan Miller, Executive Director of Copper Harbor Trails Club

Miller describes an Enduro race as a mountain biking race where the biker is timed only on their way down the hill. The time to get up the hill or breaks does not count.

The event is happening in conjunction with the first ever From the Ground Farmers Festival, which is on Saturday.
