Reservations open for trip to Isle Royale

Park service staff have begun processing reservations for summer visits to Isle Royale aboard the Ranger III. The vessel will operate at roughly 50 percent capacity between May 25th and September 11th. Additionally, private companies will run a combination of three ferries and a seaplane service. The National Park Service is only responsible for the Ranger III.

Assuming that similar capacity restrictions apply to all transportation, tickets may be hard to come by. Pictured Rocks recently announced a record number of visitors last summer. Several other recreation and leisure destinations in the region, including Door County, Wisconsin as well as trails and venues across the Copper Country reported similar conditions. If that repeats, Isle Royale will most likely benefit from high demand at the same time that there is a bottleneck regarding access to the park.

To make a reservation on the Ranger III, call the visitor center in Houghton at 906-482-0984. They are open from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM on weekdays.
