The Copper Country ISD will be hosting a rapid response COVID-19 testing event Saturday from 10 AM to 4 PM at Houghton High School. A nasal swab will still be utilized but it is self-administered and results are ascertained in as little as 15 minutes. Whether positive or negative, your reading will be sent to your phone through text, email, or a call, depending on preference.
If the results come back positive, there will be a process in place to schedule a more comprehensive examination within 48-72 hours. Superintendent George Stockero says anyone from the community can get tested free of charge. Other Upper Peninsula intermediate school districts have hosted events this week and they are being spaced out to allow for agency staff from the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to oversee the testing.
Stockero says there are two reasons why Houghton High School was chosen.
Stockero says it is the first time the CC ISD has been involved in a community testing session. More information available here.
