Preview of Wednesday’s council meetings

Stanton Township and the City of Hancock both have council meetings tonight featuring some intriguing items on their respective agendas. The committee tasked with creating a new dog park at the Houghton County Fairgrounds is submitting an application for the PetSafe Bark For Your Park contest. The designs have come a long way since the group first met in the spring. You can see a conceptual rendering below.

The city’s Million Gallon Tank houses reserves for the water system. Located on Ingot Street near Zion Lutheran Church, the facility is getting a new roof. McGrath, Inc. of Houghton has submitted an application for payment in the amount of $56,400 for the work.

A new nonprofit organization called the Guardians of the Keweenaw Ridge are set to formally introduce themselves in Stanton Township. The group has been formed in the past couple weeks to advocate against a proposed wind farm that would have turbine locations in Stanton and bordering Adams Township as well.
