UPDATE: MDOT has reached out to clarify the schedule for the Portage Lake Lift Bridge work. No firm date has been set for work to end on the north bound lane. And work on the towers may cause lane closure during the winter. The story has been changed to reflect this update.
The work on the finger joints of the portage lake lift bridge will end soon. Since the end of July work has occurred on the bridge to install new finger joints, and general maintenance on the bridge. The northbound bridge lane closure will be removed as soon as possible, but no firm date has been set said Dan Weingarten of MDOT. Work on the bridge towers and other elements will continue throughout the winter. MDOT may need to put intermittent lane closures in place for that work as winter continues.
Until lanes reopen, MDOT wants to remind drivers to slow down and be cautious when driving through work zones. especially zones like that on the Portage Lake Lift Bridge. Where space is limited and workers perform their jobs inches away from active traffic.
