Libraries are important to the health, education and development of residents within communities. And keeping the library doors open, and in great shape are high priority items for the Portage Lake District Library. The library opened at their current location along the Portage Canal, in June 2006. The library is planning on a moving forward with a floor redesign of their space for readers, and residents looking to use their facilities, computers, or attend a library event or program.
In an effort to raise funds for their plans, the Portage Lake District Library is holding an End of the Year Giving Campaign, online. In order for the library to meet the future needs of the community, the redesign, will include increased private meeting space, replacing worn furniture, replacing carpeting, a new teen reader area, mobile shelves for their extensive children’s section, updated computer stations, and a new circulation desk. The work is expected to commence in two phases, with the hope to begin around May 2023.
