Poetry and Pasty Activities Expand Pasty Fest into Friday

The Copper Country’s community of artists writers and musicians draw inspiration from different aspects of life in the region, including a favorite meal. This Friday Pasty Fest invites the community’s poets and writers to share their best pasty poetry. Director of Main Street Calumet Leah Polzin says that the fun Friday evening entertainment has been something the festival has wanted to add.

So we’ve wanted to have an arts element to Pastyfest. Last year we had the Pastyfest Art Prize. This year it’s the Pastyfest Poetry Slam. It’s a History on the Rocks event. It’ll be held at Eva’s Hideaway on Friday. So we’re expanding the days of Pastyfest. We want there to be more events on Friday and Sunday as well. So Friday you can come out and listen to some Cornish history at Eva’s Hideaway from 5 to 7 p.m. And then and the poetry the poets will read their entries or we will read them for them if they can’t come to the poetry slam you can sign up online for that. – Leah Polzin, executive director, Main Street Calumet

Prizes for pasty poetry winners will include Keweenaw cash from the Keweenaw Chamber of Commerce. Those interested in participating in the poetry slam with Pasty Fest will need to submit their work by Thursday to the Organizers. The Pasty Fest Poetry Slam will then take place Friday, at Eva’s hideaway beginning at 5 pm. Those interested in learning more about the poetry slam can find more details here.
