Playtime in the Park kicks off Thursday

Lake Linden is hosting the first Playtime in the Park this summer on June 24th. Put on weekly by the Keweenaw Family Resource Center and BHK Child Development, the gatherings are scheduled each Thursday from 10:00 AM to noon.

KFRC Director Iola Brubaker says the programs have been happening for well over a decade, but they will have special significance this summer. In 2020, Playtime in the Park was not canceled entirely, but it was scaled back and was sparsely attended due to COVID-19. Brubaker says that isolation can be particularly hard on toddlers.

The 0-3 age group is so important to brain development and social and emotional development. The pandemic has really hit that age group hard.

While the program is designed for younger children, Brubaker says that kids through middle school age are welcome to attend. Given the park setting, there is plenty of potential fun for everyone.

Keweenaw Family Resource Center (KFRC) and the BHK Child Development Board invite families with young children to join them each Thursday at local parks for Playtime in the Park.

Playtime in the Park is an outdoor playgroup designed for preschool age children, their siblings, parents and caregivers. Families gather at local parks each Thursday to play and meet other area families. Playtime in the Park rotates parks throughout the Copper Country. Each session will include a light snack, a child friendly activity and time for the children to play. Families are asked to come prepared to play and bring their own water bottle and sunscreen.

The program hosted by KFRC and BHK Child Development Center is free and available to all area families. All children must be accompanied by a responsible adult. In the event of rain, children 0 to 4 years old are invited to the Tree House Indoor Playground.

To see a complete list of Playtime in the Park locations or to register for Playtime in the Park visit KFRCkids.org or stop by The Tree House Indoor Playground at 850 W. Sharon Avenue, Suite 6, Houghton, MI. Registration forms will also be available each week at the park.
