Houghton approved the site plan for the 100 Pearl Street apartment complex last night. The plan will build new high density apartments near Michigan Tech’s campus, close enough for students to walk to classes or even downtown. The architect in charge of the project, Barry Polizn, says that the plan right now is set, besides a couple of reports the developer is waiting on from MDOT. The reports from MDOT regard the discharge of storm water into the storm water system, and what volume of water the complex will be able to get rid of at a time.
The site also plans to implement a zip car service for residents. The hope is to sway some students from bringing vehicles up to the area. Which could continue the city’s parking issue. But with the addition of covered bike racks and ample parking per bedroom, there shouldn’t be a problem for residents to find space in the coming complex’s lot.
