Plaidurday fun extends beyond the community photo

Last year the community showed their Plaidurday pride at Houghton High School. Setting the record straight for who has the most pride in wearing plaid. In one week Visit Keweenaw plans to again bring the community together, and reset the area’s record to have more than 1800 people wearing plaid at the Houghton Gremlins Football Field.

We were trying to break a world record. You know, we did not get that sanctioned by the record book, but we loved what we did. We think the community had a lot of fun, so we want to do that again this year. We would like to break our record from last year that we’ve set just amongst ourselves. – Jesse Wierderhold, Public Relations & Events Coordinator, Visit Keweenaw

The official record books won’t count the Houghton pride, says Visit Keweenaw’s Jesse Wiederhold, but that does not mean the area won’t still show regional pride for some fall favorite attire. After meeting at the football field for a community photo, Visit Keweenaw invites adults to Brew Street.

All these sites made a significant contribution to copper country mining history. The Carnegie Museum has a big collection of that. They host a lot of exhibits and pieces. And Elise will be talking about some of the history at Bruce Street, some of the old history of the Lakeshore development. – Jesse Wierderhold, Public Relations & Events Coordinator, Visit Keweenaw

The Brew Street beer garden will raise funds to support the Carnegie Library of Houghton. Wierdehold says the garden will have music and entertainment for attendees, and a history presentation beginning at 7 pm. Then on Saturday, the city of Houghton hosts the third fall fest at the waterfront pier for a day with the family.

It starts with the Plaidurday photo at one o’clock, right? Then five o’clock we have our beer garden. Fall Fest is on Saturday in Houghton as well, so it’s all through Saturday too. And there’s that color run in the morning. We have our event listings on Visitkeweenaw.com. We have a great listing for Brew Street on Facebook too. So people should go check that out too. – Jesse Wierderhold, Public Relations & Events Coordinator, Visit Keweenaw
