Classical music makes its return to the Western Upper Peninsula in June, including a stop on the 19th at the Rozsa Center on Michigan Tech’s campus. The Pine Mountain Music Festival will also host shows in Marquette and Crystal Falls at historic venues, before preparing a 30th anniversary concert to cap off its 2021 edition.
The milestone performance takes place on June 25th at the end of Art Week in Marquette and then it is back to the Rozsa on the 26th. That day, a special gathering at The Bonfire at the Continental Fire Company will be hosted by the Pine Mountain Board of Directors.

PINE MOUNTAIN MUSIC FESTIVAL ANNOUNCES 2021 LIVE SEASON
It’s a spectacular 2021 Pine Mountain Music Festival (PMMF) as we celebrate the return to live concerts in theaters across the U.P. along with the 30th anniversary of bringing high quality classical music to our neighbors in Marquette, Houghton and Iron Mountain, Crystal Falls area.
Our return to live performance includes a stellar Season with an exceptional cast, ten days from June 16-26th, in three towns in the U.P. We begin with our friends The Bergonzi Trio, fresh from recording new material, energized by pianist, Lindsay Garritson, pushing seasoned pros Ross Harbaugh and Scott Flavin to new heights. The tour starts in Marquette in the Kaufman Auditorium on June 16, moves to the Crystal Theatre in Crystal Falls on the 18th and arrives at The Rozsa Center for the Arts in Houghton on June 19th.
The Cast returns to The Kaufman Auditorium for a week of rehearsals to prepare our 30th Anniversary Show. The PMMF Season includes collaborations with members of the Marquette Symphony Orchestra, the Keweenaw Orchestra under the direction of conductor Joel Neves, members of Steve Grugin’s City Band, Marquette, The Dance department of N.M.U. and the reason Pine Mountain started the UPstarts! program nine years ago, Miles Mykkanen, now a world-renowned tenor, with a notably impressive list of achievements to his credit.
Aaron Copland’s Appalachian Spring with original choreography by Maise Zahn and her company from the N.M.U. Dance department, will be presented in the original 13-player orchestration. Rossini’s William Tell Overture will feature Ross Harbaugh and Scott Flavin and a collaborative cast from across the U.P. and Chicago. Miles Mykkanen brings favorite pieces from his current repertoire. Members of City Band, Marquette, under the direction of Steve Grugin, will present material remembering Chick Corea and including Stevie Wonder’s tribute to Big Band leaders, Sir Duke featuring former UPstart, Eric Banitt. The show, presented in two parts,starting at 4 PM with the UPStarts! will break for dinner and resume with the Anniversary Show at 7:30 PM, June 25th in Kaufman Auditorium in Marquette as the finale of the ArtWeek celebrations and then travel to the Rozsa Center for the Arts in Houghton on Saturday, June 26. Please plan on joining Board members and Director for dinner between shows at The Bonfire (408 E Montezuma Ave. in Houghton).
