PHF Announces Participating Groups for Giving Tuesday

With the holiday and shopping season right around the corner, the Portage Health Foundation has announced the groups participating in this years Giving Tuesday. Giving Tuesday is a mass fundraising campaign put on by PHF to encourage people to make a friendly contribution after spending time at stores on Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. The Portage Health Foundation pledges to match up to 200,000 dollars in donations for this year’s Giving Tuesday. Some of the organizations involved this year are the Copper Harbor Trails Club, Superior Search and Rescue, Ontonagon County Cancer Association, Keweenaw Random Acts of Kindness and many more. This year 22 organizations are set to benefit from the mass charitable campaign.

Donations being accepted now, more than $1.2 million provided to non-profits during first four years

Portage Health Foundation (PHF) is proud to announce the 22 local non-profit organizations that are participating in its fifth annual Giving Tuesday program on November 30. This year will feature a dollar-for-dollar match up to $200,000 total.

This year’s non-profits are U.P. Kids – Big Brothers Big Sisters, Swedetown Trails Club, Superior Search & Rescue, Simple Kindness for Youth (SKY), Ontonagon County Cancer Association, Omega House, Mercy EMS, Keweenaw Random Acts of Community Kindness (K-RACK), Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, Keweenaw Family Resource Center, Friends of Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Dial Help, Dan Schmitt Gift of Music, CTFR Fireman’s Club, Copper Harbor Trails Club, Copper Country Senior Meals, Copper Country Habitat for Humanity, Copper Country Angel Mission, Barbara Kettle Gundlach Shelter Home for Abused Women, Baraga County Shelter Home, Ahmeek Village Volunteer Fire & Rescue Department, and 31 Backpacks.

Giving Tuesday is held annually on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, and the widely recognized shopping events Black Friday, Small Business Saturday and Cyber Monday. It’s meant to kick off the holiday giving season by inspiring people to collaborate in improving their local communities and to give back in impactful ways to the charities and causes they support.

Through four years, this campaign has put more than $1.2 million into local non-profits through $777,826.57 in donations, and another $488,380.00 matched by PHF. Donations are being accepted now online at phfgive.org/givingtuesday. This year donors have the option of choosing a donation that will be split evenly between the 22 non-profits. Donations can also be mailed to Portage Health Foundation; 400 Quincy Street; Hancock, MI 49930. Checks must be written to Portage Health Foundation with the organization who the funds are designtated for noted along with the check.
