The Pewabic Street Community Garden is a beloved plot of land in Houghton.
Gardeners rent spaces to grow their own produce during the non-winter months.
Garden manager, Elena Busova, explained that the Pewabic Street Community Garden needs this fundraiser for more than paying water bills and buying fertilizer.
“All the money we fundraise with this fundraiser goes [towards] the maintenance of the garden, to buy materials, for repairs and renovation, and here we also have a project to help improve the garden space all around the garden. We also sponsor a school garden. One elementary school class gardens with us for a year. We’ve done this for 14 years.” – Elena Busova, Pewabic Street Community Garden Manager
Experienced gardeners donate their hearty plants to the plant sale.
“At the plant sale, we offer sun and shade perennials, house plants, ground cover, berry bushes, native plants, annuals, and any other kind of other plant you could find growing in our area.” – Elena Busova, Pewabic Street Community Garden Manager
Elena Busova has lived in Houghton for 19 years, and has been involved with the garden since it was still in its seed stages in 2007, and has nurtured it to blossom to what it is now.
The plant sale will be in Trinity Episcopal Church in Houghton from 10 am to 1pm.
