Pasty Fest Announces Medieval Theme in 2024

In 2023 Calumet held its Olympic competition awarding gold medals to top contender pasty eaters and pullers. This year Calumet’s annual pasty fest will travel back in time for a medieval-themed pasty fest. Annually the streets of Calumet fill with hundreds of people enjoying the regional dish that came to the Upper Peninsula by way of Cornwall, England. The Cornish pasty quickly became a favorite meal for miners in the region for its convenience and delicious fillings.

The medieval time theme will bring a mini-renaissance fair. Just as last year’s Pasty Fest included Olympic events, this year’s medieval theme will have participants take part in jousting,  the return of the strong man pasty pull, and pasty eating competition. Even featuring the heralded battle between House Ketchup and House Gravy. Additionally, the festival’s organizers expect the fun for Saturday to spill over into Friday evening with a concert at the Calumet Theatre and a poetry slam at Eva’s Hideaway. Pasty Fest’s main events and the traditional parade will take place on August 17th. Find more details ahead of Pasty Fest here. Those interested in getting involved with the event as a volunteer or vendor should contact Leah Poolzin with Main Street Calumet.
