Parents want to be involved in their kid’s lives. Some even join parent-teacher organizations, so parents can build a relationship with their child’s teacher and know what is happening in the classroom. This Saturday to support students at Barkell Elementary the Barkell Elementary PTO will host the annual pancake breakfast.
“They just did a whole redesign for the playground. But we didn’t get smaller basketball hoops for the little kids. So we were hoping to get something a little more permanent for the younger grades.” Deanna Levanen, President, Barkell Elementary PTO
Funds raised from this year’s breakfast will support the Barkell Elementary playground. Barkell Elementary PTO says that the breakfast wouldn’t be possible without great sponsors like the Keweenaw Co-Op for orange juice, and coffee from KC Bonkers. However, some of the most important sponsors include the volunteers of fraternity brothers from Phi Kappa Tau. Who will serve breakfast.
“They are always willing and on board. They show up and they create a lively kitchen. They’ll sing, and it seems like they have a good time. They come and help set up with us on Friday, and put the tables down. It’s nice to be able to have them help” Deanna Levanen, President, Barkell Elementary PTO
Tickets for the Barkell Elementary PTO pancake breakfast are five dollars, and kids under five years old can eat for free. Tickets can be purchased from PTO members or at the door. The pancake breakfast will begin at Barkell Elementary at 7;30 and will run until 11;30 am. Find more details about the PTO’s playground plans here.
