Overnight bridge maintenance hours extended

If you are crossing the Portage Lake Lift Bridge in the overnight hours, chances of being delayed due to construction have gone up considerably.

As snow hits for the first time, we are getting closer to the point where work will need to be suspended for the season. The Michigan Department of Transportation is expanding the possible hours when construction can take place to between 12:15 and 5:15. Previously, it was just a three hour window starting at 2:00.

Maintenance will happen when possible for the rest of this week and Tuesday through Friday morning next week. If you are stopped at the bridge, plan on the delay lasting up to 30 minutes. Currently, both lanes are open on US-41 South coming from Hancock, but the outside northbound lane is closed at all times of the day.
