Operation Copper Country Active Duty organizers work on the gift list, and check it twice

Even though Veteran’s Day ceremonies have wrapped up, the Copper Country will find a way to support military service members.

Operation Copper Country Active Duty has begun accepting donations for the gift campaign. But the program needs service men and women to send gifts too. Over the years, and parents of service members can attest, Operation Copper Country Active Duty has helped military members reconnect with families back home. The gifts often include items like clothing, books, paper and pen, playing cards, and snacks.

The program pulls together collaborative efforts of VFW posts and American Legion halls, led by the American Legion 186, and works with students from Houghton High School to package gifts. Organizers for the 2024 campaign ask those interested in signing up a local serviceman or woman to contact the American Legion post 186. Operation Copper Country Active Duty donations boxes can be found throughout the region at VFW and American Legion posts, and local businesses. Learn more about the program here.
