One man was injured in a single-car accident on US – 41 near the Portage Lake Golf Course yesterday. At approximately 11:45 am MSP Troopers arrived at the scene of a vehicle accident on US – 41 between Waylene Road and Denton Road. Troopers say that the 70-year-old male driver lost control of his vehicle while traveling south due to icy road conditions, and struck a utility pole on the passenger side.
The power line pole struck by the vehicle broken near the base, resulting in live wires on the roadway, and an outage in the immediate area. During the outage, 60 UPPCO meters were without power.
The Driver of the vehicle was transported to UPHS Portage for injuries sustained in the crash. Troopers believe traveling at too high a rate of speed for the road conditions played a key factor in the accident.
MSP Troopers were assisted by Houghton City Police, Michigan Tech Public Safety, the Houghton County Sheriff’s Department, Mercy EMS, MDOT, UPPCO, and the Huron Township Fire Department
