One Dead, One Injured in ORV Accident Yesterday in Eagle Harbor Township

UPDATE: The identity of the man who died in has been released. Forty-eight-year-old Jason Tuoriniemi of Mohawk was killed in the incident. Arrangements are being handled by the Erickson-Crowley Funeral Home.

An ORV accident yesterday near US-41 and Silver Mine Road sent one man to the hospital and another was pronounced dead on arrival in Eagle Harbor Township. Keweenaw County Sheriff deputies reported to the side-by-side ORV accident at around 10:35 am. At the scene the sheriff pronounced the 48 year-old male operator of the ORV dead upon arrival. First responders began medical attention to the ORV’s 60 year-old passenger, until he was transported to Aspirus Keweenaw Hospital by Mercy Ambulance.  There is no word on the passenger’s condition, and the accident is still under investigation according to the sheriff department. Keweenaw County Sheriff was assisted by Allouez Township Medical First Responders, Allouez, Eagle Harbor, Calumet and Sherman township fire departments, Keweenaw Search and Rescue and the county medical examiner.
