Old-timers Return to the Copper Country to Make New Memories

Old barns, and older teams out on the ice playing in an area with a rich hockey history. It must be the old-timers tournament weekend in the Keweenaw Peninsula.

Tonight, the puck will drop to start the 39th annual Copper Country Old Timers Hockey Tournament. A fantastic and fun time for spectators and players alike the tournament highlights the Copper Country’s love for hockey. There are more than 40 teams from across the Midwest traveling to the area to participate in the tournament’s several age divisions; including a women’s division. The first games tonight will take place at the Dee Stadium in Houghton, one of the country’s oldest still actively used ice arenas, and at the Houghton County Arena home to the Hancock Bulldogs.

The first game at 5 pm between the Calumet Generals and the Traverse City 60 + team is at the Dee Stadium. The Copper Country Old Timers Tournament will last until Sunday with the final game between Bucko’s and Cokato at 1 pm.
