After closing the doors on Finlandia University, many in the area asked what would happen with the school’s buildings. Recently some of the properties have sold. Such as the Ryan Street Gardens and the Quincy Green. As well as McAfee Field where Hancock Pubic Schools plays Friday night football games. Before the city’s recent re-purchase of the green, Hancock sold the space to the university several years ago for a dollar. Those three purchase are anticipated to be finalized in the coming weeks.
State Reciever Patrick O’Keefe says he is focused on doing what he can to protect the community through the dissolution process. However, due to the nature of his role, he legally cannot sell any of Findlandia’s properties for less than fair market value.
“Yeah, there would be no reason for me to do that.” – Patrick O’Keefe, State Appointed Receiver, O’Keefe LLC,.
During an upcoming episode of Copper Country Today, Finlandia’s receiver said he is focused on making sure that the dissolution will have as little negative impact as possible.
“The community has been very understanding and helpful through this whole process. And trying to figure out what to do with this. Really, a disaster that’s happened.” – Patrick O’Keefe, State Appointed Receiver, O’Keefe LLC,.
