Ohio man dead after snowmobile-vehicle crash

At 3:45 PM Friday, Houghton County Sheriff deputies responded to a collision involving a snowmobile and a vehicle. The crash occurred where Trail 17 crosses US-41 north of Calumet. The snowmobile operator was a 49-year-old man from Ohio who died after being transported to Aspirus Keweenaw. The vehicle was driven by a 33-year-old woman from Ahmeek, heading south. The investigation is ongoing, but the Sheriff’s Office says speed is believed to be a factor. No word if that applies to the snowmobile, vehicle, or both.

Assisting at the scene were Laurium Police, Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Calumet Fire and First Responders, Mercy EMS, and Superior Service.
