Northern Shores Storywork Writing Project site encourages Upper Peninsula teens to participate in the Scholastic Ar and Writing Awards

Northern Shores Storywork Writing Project at Northern Michigan University encourages kids to participate in the Scholastic Award program. Recently NMU’s Norther Shores Storywork Writing Project encouraged teens from 7th to 12th grades to join the Scholastic Art and Writing Award. The awards include 38 categories ranging from journalism, poetry, film and animation, photography, illustrations, and more. Previous award winners in the program include writers such as Stephen King, Kay WalkingStick, Joyce Carol Oates, and Andy Warhol.

In total, the Scholastic Arts and Writing awards disperses 2500 scholarships worth 400,000 dollars. Local Affiliate associate Kel Sassi says the university hopes to highlight the works of teens in rural America and offer the opportunity for scholarship awards for further education. Project Site Executive Director Christopher Wisniewski, adds the alliance’s mission opens the door for teens to freely explore talents through whatever outlet offers them a voice to express creativity. The Northern Shores Storywork Writing Project site will host an award ceremony for the program’s regional level in March 2025.
