Northern Michigan University will receive 13.4 million dollars in state funds to assist with the construction of the College of Business’ new home. Governor Gretchen Whitmer recently signed off on appropriations to support the construction of the NMU Northern Enterprise Center. The center will house the university’s College of Business, and act as a catalyst for workforce, economic, and community development across the Upper Peninsula. The 19.1 million dollar facility will provide a dynamic learning environment for students in Northern Michigan’s growing College of Business. The project represents a part of the university’s overall campus master plan initiative to more centrally locate popular programs while moving the university toward a more carbon-neutral footprint. The master plan also includes the demolition of Gries Hall on campus. The construction project will complete the NMU Academic Mall allowing students to more easily traverse campus in the winter, as an addition to the C.B. Hedgecock Building.
