Northern Michigan University Police Warn of Scammer Calling Individuals

Northern Michigan University police warn of a scammer impersonating a university officer. The NMU Police Department would like to make the student body and surrounding community aware of a scam report, where an individual has called victims by phone to impersonate an NMU PD officer. The scammer has attempted to retrieve money from the victim by claiming that they or a family member has a pending charge and must pay a bond fee. Northern Michigan University Police DOES NOT conduct business in this manner, and will not ask someone to pay for a bond fee over the phone. If approached in this manner, individuals are asked to contact the North Michigan University police department immediately. NMU’s police department can be reached by calling 906 227 2151.
