Nordic Film Series explores the happiest country in the world

Heikinpaiva brings the Copper Country together to celebrate the region’s Finnish connection.

The Keweenaw Peninsula became the home of many Finnish immigrants between 1870 and 1929. When more than 350,000 Finns immigrated to the United States. In the years since Finland saw many residents leave to seek economic opportunities across the Atlantic Ocean, the country has grown into one of the happiest places in the world.

Tomorrow to start some of the area’s events and cultural opportunities before Heikinpaiva’s festivities at the end of the month, the organizers will host a film screening. Starting at 2 pm the Nordic Film Series will turn down the lights and turn on the projector to show the film, The Happiest Country in the World: Finland.

The event is free to attend, however organizers do suggest donating to support the Nordic film series and future shows. The screening will begin at 2 pm inside the Finnish American Heritage Center. Find more details here.
