NMU To Hold Conviction Expungement Clinic

Northern Michigan University will host a free criminal conviction expungement eligibility clinic offered through University of Detroit Mercy School of Law.

The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law will obtain a copy of each individual’s Internet Criminal History Record without charge.

Those with more than 3 felony charges are not eligible for expungement, but there may be exceptions if all the felonies occurred within 24 hours. Individuals may expunge unlimited eligible misdemeanors, such as some traffic offenses and a first DUI.

Individuals will have their criminal records reviewed and be advised of their eligibility and the following steps by law students, faculty, and volunteer attorneys.

Though not all criminal convictions are eligible for expungement under Michigan law, individuals seeking to have theirs considered must pre-register by 5 pm tomorrow.

The clinic is limited to the first 75 registrants.

The event will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. on Friday, May 19 in 1318 Jamrich Hall.
