A new plat book has been published by Houghton Keweenaw County 4-h. The plat book includes detailed land ownership maps for the peninsula across 166 pages. The maps show property boundaries for all rural parcels, landowner names, and acre sizes. The book used LiDAR aerial view maps, enhanced by elevation data from the USGS National Elevation Dataset, to create a 3-dimensional effect to show the actual topography of the land. The new edition of the Houghton and Keweenaw Counties Plat Book also includes information about the Houghton Keweenaw 4H club, programs, government directories, watershed maps, municipal maps, and county roads. The information included in the book has become an important resource for property owners, hunters, foresters, timbers, and petroleum industry personnel and emergency services. All proceeds raised through book sales support the local 4-H club’s programs. A 2024 edition of the Houghton Keweenaw County Plat book can be purchased at several locations in the area and costs 40 dollars.
