Trails Fest is back this weekend. Up in Copper Harbor, the Midwest’s most beloved mountain bike festival kicks off, on Friday. There are plenty of races, of varying difficulty levels, to take part in. Bikers will race along the Copper Harbor Trails Club’s and Keweenaw Mountain Lodge’s bike trails.
Even though mountain biking and the races are a main focus for people flocking to Copper Harbor this weekend, there is much more going on. According to the Copper Harbor Trails Club Executive Director, Nathan Miller, the music this year will be better than ever. The musical talent, entertaining the crowd on Saturday, is the acclaimed jam-band Terrapin Flyer. Who are known for their Grateful Dead energy and style. And on Sunday, 4onthefloor will return for another set to close out the weekend.
Even you aren’t interested in biking, trails fest has more to offer. Beyond the music and beer tent for adults, there is a 10 kilometer foot race. That race will include various terrain, and is best described as a cross country 10 k. There will also be educational hikes around the Keweenaw Mountain Lodge, led by KML Naturalist Tom Oliver.
