MUPVHC Seeks Sponsors for the Northern Lights Hockey Night, Announces Details for the Game

Supporting veterans in the Keweenaw Peninsula comes as easy as a gremlin’s goal in a hockey game. At the start of April, the Copper Country will play host to a major clash on the ice that will raise funds for two local organizations. The Northern Lights hockey night between the Minnesota Warriors and the Minnesota Warriors and the Michigan Upper Peninsula Veterans Hockey Club will bring together the community to support equipment loans of the Keweenaw and Copper Country Junior Hockey.

“It also provides that community a chance to you know come say thank you support their local veterans and let them know that you know hey we appreciate what you did for us we appreciate what you continue to do for our community and it’s a great way for the veterans to interact with everybody there’s a stigma with PTS and TBI and different issues that we may have, but this is a great barrier to get through that and interact with each other.” – John French, Co – Captain, MUPVHC

Northern Lights Hockey Night to support Elk and the Copper Country Junior Hockey Association will take place at the Dee Stadium in Houghton on April 6th. Organizers for the event are in search of business sponsors for the evening. Sponsors help with providing financial support or participating in the silent auction. Local businesses interested in sponsoring the Northern Lights Hockey Night should contact the City of Houghton’s Jeff Jepsen for more details. Sponsorships will close in about a week.

Doors will open at the Dee Stadium on April 6th at 6:15 pm, with puck drop at 7:05. During the game attendees can learn about and check out veterans resources with the Houghton County Veterans Affairs Office, participate in a silent auction and more. Organizers are finalizing the last details for the evening and off ice entertainment opportunities. Tickets for the game are five dollars for anyone over the age of 13. Veterans, active duty service members, and local first responder such as police, fire and EMT, can get into the game for free.
