UPDATE: One fatality confirmed from Friday’s multivehicle crash

UPDATE: Houghton County Sheriff’s Office has confirmed that 73-year-old David Sundberg from Ahmeek died as a result of injuries sustained in Friday’s crash.

Icy roads and speed combined to help cause a multivehicle crash on Memorial Drive near Canal Road Friday afternoon. Just after 12:30 PM, a 73-year-old man from Ahmeek lost control going southbound. His passenger car collided with a delivery truck from Houghton Building Supply after crossing into northbound traffic and was hit by a third vehicle as well.

The Ahmeek man and the 56-year-old man from Hubbell who was driving the delivery truck were both transported to Aspirus Keweenaw by Mercy Ambulance. Several other crashes occurred as a result.

Houghton County Sheriff deputies were assisted by the City of Houghton Police, Houghton Fire, MTU Public Safety, Dave’s Towing, Hurontown Fire and Rescue, and Superior Service.
