Military Planes Move to Sawyer Regional Airport While Construction Work Takes Place at Selfridge Air National Guard Base

Military planes will land in Gwinn due to a 9.8 million project at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base. 350 airmen have been assigned to the 127th Wing’s A-10 Thunderbolt II aircraft mission, which will deploy to an undisclosed location. The project’s impact will affect its local flight operations due to the runway construction. The Detroit Metro Airport and Sawyer Regional Airport will receive KC-135 stratotanker aircraft for approximately three months. After the project has been completed the KC135 aircraft will return to the Selfridge Air National Guard Base. The 127th Wing supports 1500 personnel flying the A-10 Thunderbolt II and KC-135 Stratotanker for Air Mobility Command and air combat command.
