Michigan’s Upper Peninsula tops USA Today’s list for best places to find fall foliage

Nothing can beat Michigan’s fall colors. Or at least the Upper Peninsula’s. Recently USA Today announced the 2024 Ten Best Places to see fall colors in the United States, naming Michigan’s Upper Peninsula superior to all other locations.

After hearing about the ranking, local trail and outdoor recreation group, MI TRALE encouraged residents and visitors to travel the Copper Country and western region for fall foliage. MI TRALE maintains over 550 miles of ORV, horseback, and multi-use trails in the western Upper Peninsula. The Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment works around the region to advance the safety and responsible use of recreation trails for motorized and nonmotorized use, including the development, designation, and interconnection of multi-use trails. The club was started in 2001 and has primarily worked with the Department of Natural Resources and private landowners to maintain trails in and around the Ottawa National Forest.

Those looking for fall foliage activities aren’t limited to trail riding experiences either, with several festivals, events, and fall activities taking place around the region.

Those interested in learning more about the Upper Peninsula earning the top rank for places to see fall foliage in the United States, or want to learn more about fall activities in the Copper Country can find more details below.
