Michigan Tech’s Dr. Laura Kasson Fiss Named the President of the Midwest Victorian Studies Association

A humanities professor at Michigan Tech takes on President of the Midwest Victorian Studies Association. Dr. Laura Kasson Fiss, an Associate Teaching Professor of Humanities and Assistant Director of the Pavlis Honors College has been named the new president of the MVSA. The announcement was made official recently during the association’s 2024 MVSA conference in Iowa City at the University of Iowa. Dr. Fiss holds a multidisciplinary background in music, literary studies, and the history of the book, with a profound appreciation for the Victorian era. In her role with the Midwest Victorian Studies Association Fiss emphasized expanding the group’s reach and resources. Previously she held the vice president role with the organization and as the chair of the Arnstein prize committee. The Arnstein Prize provides recognition to graduate students for exceptional research into Victorian studies.
