Michigan Technological University has officially gained approval for the school’s bachelor’s degree in nursing. The Higher Learning Commission recently approved Michigan Technological University’s request to offer a bachelor’s of science in nursing. The degree program has additionally gained approvals from the Michigan Board of Nursing and its professional accreditor over the summer. Michigan Technological University began to consider implementing a nursing degree after it was announced by Finlandia University its intent to close. The small private college had a significant number of students enrolled in its nursing programs at the time. Currently, Michigan Technological University will only offer a bachelor of science in nursing, and not other nursing certifications such as CNA certification. There are multiple locations in the western Upper Peninsula that provide CNA education including the Copper Country Intermediate School District, and the Keweenaw Bay Ojibwa Community College.
