Throughout the years Michigan Tech has honored the message and mission of Dr. Martin Luther Kingr. Today the university will continue that tradition, with events for students and the community throughout the day. This morning, during the MLK Day brunch Jaylyn Boone will speak. Since becoming an alumnus of the university in 2018. Boone has developed a prolific career as a keynote speaker focusing on sharing stories to motivate students of color, create youth empowerment, and inspire student leaders. At noon students and faculty will join at the Opie Library east reading room for an MLK Prayer vigil led by pastor Sarah Semmler Smith of Good Shepard Lutheran Church. Then in the afternoon, Vice President of Student Affairs Laura Bulliet will lead the MLK Peace March starting at the Husky State on Campus passing through the new alumni gateway Arch.
