Michigan Tech Announces the 2024 University Professor and Distinguished Professor titles. The university congratulates several faculty members who have made outstanding scholarly contributions to the university and discipline over a substantial period.
The 2024 University Professors include Kathleen Halvorsen, Yun Hang Hu, and Gregory Odegard. Halvorsen teaches in the College of Forestry. In the last five years, she has helped the university gain access to National Science Foundation grants.
Hu is the Charles and Carroll McArthur Professor in the Department of Materials Science and Engineering. He has developed a world-renowned reputation as the number four tanked scientist in Physical Chemistry and is among the world’s 0.1 percent of researchers in all fields.
Professor Odegard holds the title of John O Hollquist Endowed Chair in the Department of Mechanical Engineering-Engineering Mechanics and is a leader in aerospace and computational multiscale mechanics modeling and material science.
The 2024 Distinguished Professor titles announced by the university include Simon Carn, Adrienne Minerick, Quiying Sha, and Zhanping You. Distinguished professor titles recognize faculty who have made significant contributions to their college and the university that are not currently recognized with an endowed position.
Carn over 16 has successfully secured funding from agencies such as NASA, the National Science Foundation, and NOAA.
Minerick is the only person at Michigan Tech to have earned three University awards, with the Rath Research Award, Williams Instructional Innovation Award, and Diversity Award.
Sha, a professor in the Department of Mathematical Science, has served on the National Institute of Health’s review panel, and as a editorial board member for Scientific Reports.
Between 2019 and 2024 You received different awards and fellowships from national and international communities and foundations.
