Michigan Tech Announces Maintenance Plans at MacInnes Ice Arena, Will Impact Summer Activities

While students and faculty at Michigan Tech continue through the spring semester, the university has laid out plans for maintenance at the John MacInnes Ice Arena. This spring and summer the university will close the facility for overdue maintenance tasks. The renovation project will begin after spring commencement. With plans set to finish work by mid–August. While closed, crews will replace the arena’s original air handling units from 1970. During the summer the closure will affect all activities including hockey and figure skating camps, and ice rentals. The University anticipates normal activities will resume in the summer of 2025. Previous maintenance to the facility includes new seating and flowing in 2008, the addition of luxury suites in 2009, an ice plant upgrade in 2012, and the installation of a new LED digital scoreboard in 2013.
