Michigan State Police increasing patrols during the holidays

The end of the year offers time to celebrate achievements, holidays, and milestones. Winter and the holidays can also become a lonely time for many as well. And something any evening this time of the year can have in common includes a drink of alcohol.

This holiday season the Michigan state police want to remind travelers to drive sober or get pulled over. From 2019 to 2023, 30 people were killed in fatal car accidents during the holiday period. Last year nearly 41 percent of fatal accidents on Michigan’s roads involved alcohol or drugs. Through December and into January the Michigan state police plan to increase patrols on state roadways.

It is illegal to drive in the state of Michigan with a blood alcohol content of 0.08 or higher. The limit falls to 0.04 percent for commercial drivers. Those interested in learning more about the Michigan State Police’s Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over campaign can find more details here.
