Michigan LEO Expanding Apprenticeship Opportunities Through a New Grant Program

The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity spread 5.5 million dollars throughout the state to expand apprenticeship opportunities in non-traditional sectors. Michigan LEO has begun to accept requests for proposals from Michigan organizations that can provide access to life-changing career opportunities through the State Apprenticeship Expansion 2023 grant program.

The department will prioritize industries and occupations in the care economy, climate and clean energy, education, healthcare, hospitality, Outdoor recreation, public sector, supply chain logistics, technology, and transportation. Eligible organizations include chambers of commerce, economic development organizations, business and industry organizations, labor companies, local units of government, and non-profit organizations. The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity will award between 5 and 10 grants, with funds ranging from 500,000 to 1 million dollars.

The State Apprenticeship Expansion 2023 grant program with the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity will remain open until February 7th, 2024. The state department plans to announce grantees on March 13th, 2024.
