Michigan DNR Encourages Boat Owners to Prepare for a Summer on the Water

In the land of the great lakes boating adventures are second nature to the region’s residents. Michigan DNR encourages boaters to renew their watercraft licenses before the start of the season, as well as shares tips about preparing for a summer of fun. The department hopes to encourage boat owners to recycle the shrink wrap used to protect vessels over the winter. Department officials also encourage boaters to check for closures before heading out to the lake. Some docks and boat launch locations have not opened for the season yet. To also avoid the spread of invasive species into new bodies of water the department wants boat owners to clean, drain, and dry their boat before getting in the water. Or before venturing out to a new location. The department’s biggest invasive species concerns with water are species like phragmites, European frogbit, and zebra mussels.
