Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity Hire Dr. Emily Geiger to Head MiSTEM Network in Western Upper Peninsula

Michigan’s Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity has hired a former Finlandia University and Gogebic Community College professor as Western Upper Peninsula’s MiSTEM Network regional director.

Dr. Emily Geiger will join the department’s MiSTEM network, working toward advancing K through 12 STEM Education. Her experience and leadership in STEM will help further the Department’s goal of making stem learning more accessible across the state for students to fill in-demand  careers. With the support of the Copper Country ISD, Geiger will work with area school districts to coordinate and oversee the progress of STEM courses offered, aligned with the state’s goals. She will also work with community stakeholders to understand how the area’s goals and desires can also be met by furthering stem education in the copper country. 

In addition to her experience teaching in higher education, this past year Geiger, Opened Bridging Gaps Childcare in Hancock. And in the past has worked with various breweries in the region using her education and knowledge as a micro biologist.
