The state of Michigan creates a Gun Violence Prevention Task Force to address the rise of firearm-related injuries and deaths in the state. Last week Governor Gretchen Whitmer signed an executive order establishing the Michigan Gun Violence Prevention Task Force. Establishing the new task force builds upon the state’s recent actions to implement commonsense gun laws such as more rigorous background checks, safe storage requirements, issuing extreme risk protective orders, and creating stronger penalties for those convicted of domestic abuse. In light of tragic events like those at Oxford High School, Michigan State University, and Rochester Hills, Governor Whitmer says that residents deserve to feel safe living their lives. By establishing this Gun Violence Prevention Task Force Michigan aims to reduce rates and instances of gun violence by building recent legislation.
