With many in the area expecting a long weekend this Labor Day, many are bound to get out on the Keweenaw Peninsula’s ORV trails. The Michigan Trails and Recreation Alliance of Land and the Environment are encouraging ATV and side by side enthusiasts to be safe in the back country. MI-TRALE, says there are 12 steps to having a fun and safe experience on Michigan’s incredible network of off road vehicle trails.
Including Slowing down, riding sober, travel at a comfortable speed, ride on the right side of the trail, keep your headlights on even during the day, operate within your limits, be prepared for changes in weather, only have a passenger if your vehicle has the capability, create and share your ride plan with friends and family at home, help keep the trails maintained by helping to remove large debris from the trail, be respectful of mixed use trails and those in the area not on an ORV, and know the rules and regulations of off road recreation before getting outdoors.
