Local dedicated trail club members are responsible for maintaining the Copper Country’s many miles of trails. MI-TRALE will seek members to help with trail maintenance on over 550 miles of Equestrian, hiking, and biking trails. The club’s leaders say in a release that they need more volunteers who are dedicated and have a passion for the region’s natural beauty in the back country. Adding that after a long maintenance season already several members need help to finish, and could begin to fall behind on required checkmarks for Department of Natural Resources inspections.
MI-TRALE says that anyone who uses the trails can help maintain the network. Including those in the area visiting. A few hours of volunteering can make a huge difference for the club and community. Members can even help with locating a crew location and tools for those willing to reach out. Without more help and participation in trail maintenance efforts, MI-TRALE leaders say it’ll become difficult to keep up on other projects and maintenance that could impact safety or operation.

Fellow MI–TRALE Members,
We are reaching out to our membership in hopes of getting some help with trail maintenance. Currently we have 8 people trying to maintain over 550 miles of ORV, Equestrian, Hiking and Bicycle trails. Needless to say, we are not doing everything that needs to be done and people are getting burned out. Volunteering is turning into a full time job for some of us and we need some help. What we are looking for is help with brushing and signing the trails. We are required by the DNR to inspect all the trails they fund before Memorial Day and again before Labor Day. Aside from the DNR funded trails there are numerous “club” trails that need work along with some on the map that have never been signed yet. Please remember, all of this work is done on a volunteer basis. We do not have a dedicated, paid trail maintenance crew.
You don’t have to be local to help. If you are up here using the trails and can take a few hours to help, please reach out to us. We will find something for you to do in the area you are using the trails. Even if you throw a chainsaw and/or a pair of pruning shears in your SxS and clean up anything you run across as you ride or carry a garbage bag and pick up trash as you use a trail, it would be a huge help. Without more help and participation from our membership, the trails we all enjoy will not be kept up like they need to be.
