During Mental Illness Awareness Week, the Mental Health Support Group – Keweenaw Area will invite a special guest to speak during its monthly meeting. Tonight the Mental Health Support Group has invited Lieutenant Nick Roberts from the City of Houghton Police Department to share how the agency works with citizens in the midst of a mental health crisis. The city of Houghton has begun to implement crisis intervention and response initiatives within how officers interact with the community. With the goal of better serving the needs of an individual who experiences a mental heal crisis, through through de-escalation tactics. Mental Health Support Group Keweenaw Area invites the community to learn more about changes to law enforcement’s response to mental health crises at its program tonight.
