MEDC Plans to Visit the City of Houghton in October

City Manager Eric Waara has returned from his trip to Grand Rapids. In Grand Rapids he attended the Municipal League Conference. There Waara was able to learn about future grant opportunities that could come as a part of the infrastructure bill in Washington.  The planning commission approved the site plan for the Canal Road Campground. The site plan is a partial plan in order to have grating work start on the site. The goal is to begin finding and covering stamp sand in the area, and level sites for camping spots. The commission also approved a lot split for the extended stay hotel. The lot split will move the storm water pond to allow developments to continue on the hotel.

And on October 11th the Michigan Economic Development Corporation will be visiting the city of Houghton to begin identifying sites that could be suitable for redevelopment in the area. City manager Waara has already identified a number of places in the city limits and also heard from members on the commission for possible ideas.
