MDOT road work affecting several communities

A Michigan Department of Transportation project is repairing sidewalks along state trunk lines in multiple communities. M-26 in Hubbell is the first to have the work started, but M-203 in Hancock won’t be far behind. Torch Lake Township Supervisor Brian Cadwell says all walkways will have a different look when crews wrap up.

ADA compliant sidewalk ends that are sloped downward to meet the road and it also has the textured inlay on there so vision-impaired folks will know it is the end of the sidewalk.

Torch Lake Township is taking advantage of the situation by pairing the sidewalk replacement with repaving work.

They will going through and grinding off the top two inches of black top, processing it, and resurfacing too.

Cadwell says the township did the same with repairs from the Father’s Day Flood. That helps to reduce the inconvenience for Hubbell residents and commuters.

For the August general election, Torch Lake Township is one of a handful of communities with a millage renewal. Funds are only allowed to be spent for a narrow set of purposes, including improvements to the fire hall, the hydrant system, and other fire equipment.
